Well, it's both. This 100% organic cotton tea towel moonlights as a really fun craft project. With just a needle, thread, stuffing & scissors, the tea towel can be transformed into a really quite friendly stuffed Lion. This new product from Mibo has just won the prestigious 'Best New Home Product' at London's Top Drawer trade show and will be appearing on the Mibo website in a couple of weeks time.

As you can see, it also comes in fox.

A super fun styling job

A friend of a friend asked me to lend a hand styling her wedding: She had quite a simple request: 300 pink tissue paper pompoms to be suspended from the ceiling of the marquee. Now, I don't know if any of you have ever made one of these pompoms but they do take a bit of a careful hand - too much haste/impatience results in a pile of torn paper and a hissy fit. Fortunately I had a fair few visitors popping in during the weeks before the wedding and anyone who stepped over the threshold was handed a pile of pink tissue paper and was given a quick lesson. The house took on quite a different hue during those weeks, with the pink bundles of fluff lining every room....

even the cat got involved, though am not sure making a little bed out of them really helped the cause.

eventually after carefully stringing the pompoms into a van and driving to Essex...

we finally got them up in situ with the assistance of a very nice marquee guy with a very tall ladder. Job done! Bride and groom were delighted and the guests all helped themselves to the pompoms after the wedding was over - little fluffy mementos of the happy day.

New Animal Packaging

Finally our new animal packs have arrived - They are based on old jazz record covers with the animals posing as would be musicians. The inks are all vegetable based, the card stock is 100% recycled post consumer waste & the cellophane bag is bio-degradable so all in all a pretty green product. We have now got several stockists for them in the UK and around Europe with more enquiries coming in every day... plus online sales from our own site have never been better. Today I am experimenting with some new Christmas Creatures... will post some comedy prototype pics shortly...

New Prints

Over Christmas I started a run of limited edition screen prints for kid's rooms - and finally managed to squeeze in a few evenings last week to print some more. Here we have the same mouse print, but in green and a brand new print of a cat reciting her way through some numbers.
The prints have a rustic almost, tactile quality to them and the colours give them a gently 50s vibe.

A Highland Thing

An old friend of mine invited me & some other pals to stay for a week in her family home on the west coast of Scotland. I hadn't been to this part of Scotland since I was 6 and was admitedly slightly scarred by memories of being eaten alive by midges and being dragged kicking and screaming up Ben Nevis. How different it was this time. Fantastic weather, low-profile midges, cycling, sailing and some (age appropriate) hiking. All in the company of some great old friends and herds of these gorgeous highland cows.

It's a story of two sweet sheep and an arrogant bird who shows off, but then gets his comeuppance and sees the error of his ways! It's only 2 minutes long and is well worth a look. Ranunculus joy

Last year for my birthday my mum gave me 50 ranunculus bulbs which were duly put in the ground and were sort of forgotten about. Lo and behold! Nature has worked her magic and given me these dazzling blooms. Ranuncs last really well when cut (some of these are over a week old) and they change so much while they are in the vase. They are truly my favourite flowers, similar to peonies but somehow chirpier. Thanks mum x .

The show is brought to you by the same folk who organise Midcentury Modern which I had the pleasure of visiting the other day. Studio Mate of the Week #3

...and here we have the inimitable Holly Murray. Essex born and bred, with a cackle that could stun a horse from 100 yds. Actually, she is pure class and one of the most talented makers I have ever come across. Her main speciality is costume for contemporary dance, but she is equally adept at producing anything from exquisite wedding dresses to fleecey mushrooms (pictured here) not to mention the high-end fashion label she ran with fellow studio mate Sophie Saunders (more on her anon).

This sweet little sight tickled my fancy today; a cardboard box under my desk containing all the prototype animals that I have made in the quest for the perfect shape/colour combination. Saltdean Shade, after and before

I recently really enjoyed printing some lengths of this "Saltdean" fabric to be made up into supersized lampshades (available at www.mibo.co.uk). This printing is all done at a studio I share with a bunch of Brighton creatives (see studio mate of the week #1 below) It's so nice to step away from the computer, turn the phone off and just lose oneself in the steady, methodical process that is screen-printing.

Introducing Valentiny

Now I have to admit that, being a little bit long in the tooth, Valentine's day has been slightly off my radar of late, but remembering the frisson of finding an unexpected card or gift on the morning of the 14th Feb led me to invent Valentiny; a tiny owl grapsing an even tinier envelope in his beak. So why not sneak him onto the doorstep or desk of that someone who takes your fancy. I've just posted the DIY kit on www.mibostudio.co.uk. It's just £2.00 ($3.25) for the pdf kit and it will take you about 15mins to make the owl & card and then another 10 mins if you want to make a cute little presentation box, also included in the kit.

Over Christmas I developed this new screen print, featuring a sweet little mouse squeaking its way through the alphabet. I have already sold quite a few (they are in an edition of just 50) Going to work on a number version next I think.
